What a wine discovery box should contain

A coherent discovery box relies on genuine diversity rather than a high bottle count. Three to six bottles covering distinct appellations, grape varieties or styles offer more educational value than eight bottles that are similar to one another.

The inclusion of a tasting sheet per bottle, specifying grape variety, appellation, serving temperature and pairing suggestions, distinguishes a discovery-focused box from a simple commercial assortment.

Common thread and freshness

The choice of a common thread (a region, a grape variety expressed across several terroirs, a price range) gives coherence to the selection and facilitates comparison during tasting. The freshness of the selection also matters: a box composed solely of mass-market references loses most of its value compared to a selection including at least one or two references from small, niche producers.
