Wine & cellar advice

Minimum conditions for a home wine cellar

Temperature

A stable temperature between 12 and 14°C is the primary condition for long-term storage — significant and repeated fluctuations have a greater impact than the absolute temperature value, provided it remains within a reasonable range (10 to 16°C).

Humidity

A humidity level between 70 and 75% limits the drying out of the cork, which would allow air to enter; conversely, excessive humidity promotes mold growth on labels without necessarily affecting the wine.

Light and vibrations

The absence of direct light, particularly UV light, protects the wine from premature oxidation. Continuous vibrations (proximity to a household appliance, floor subject to heavy road traffic) are generally considered unfavorable over the very long term, although their impact remains debated and secondary compared to temperature.

A dual-zone electric wine cabinet allows these criteria to be met in an apartment, without requiring an underground cellar.
