Corporate gifts

Client gifts: how much to spend per recipient?

There is no single correct amount in absolute terms. A gift that is too modest can seem negligent, while a gift that is too substantial can make the recipient uncomfortable, or even pose a compliance issue in certain companies. The right approach is to segment.

Three levels of relationship

Standard relationships. Regular clients, suppliers, operational contacts. A two-bottle gift box between €40 and €73 incl. VAT is suitable. This price range allows VAT recovery.

Important relationships. Strategic clients, regular recommenders, long-standing partners. A gift set from €80 to €150, featuring a grower Champagne or a cellaring wine, demonstrates thoughtful attention.

Key relationships. A few individuals per year, no more. A fine wine, a magnum, or a custom-curated set. Above €150, verify that the recipient is not subject to an internal gift policy limiting received items.

Recipient compliance policies

Many companies, particularly corporate groups and public organizations, regulate the gifts their employees can accept, often setting a value cap. When in doubt, a modest yet high-quality gift set is always preferable to a declined gift.

Quality over quantity

For the same budget, two carefully selected bottles make a better impression than four ordinary ones. A wine enthusiast will appreciate an esteemed estate; a non-connoisseur will remember the presentation and the card. The gift set should satisfy both.

Costs to keep in mind

For VAT purposes, these expenses count toward the €73 threshold when billed alongside the gift.
